A small sigh left his lips as he look down at the metal mask in his hands. It was the thing that protected him, yet imprisoned him. Why him? What did he ever do to deserve such a thing to happen to to him? He was tempted to allow the object to drop the ground beneath him as he sat high upon the branch.
"Why, Amara, great All Seeing Goddess. Why have you given me this curse?" he muttered aloud, his good eye still following the movements of the mask. His shoulders visibly drooped more as no answer came.
A sudden rustling of leaves made him flinch, turning to see what had made the noise. A soft sigh of relief left his throat as he saw it was only his mount, shifting the get to better grasses. He was tired of people finding him and convincing him everything would be OK. He didn't want to have false hopes anymore. He wanted it to happen for real.
But, of course, it wouldn't. "Why did Martin have to be our god?" he asked to nobody in particular. "Why not Akemi? Or Hitokiri?" he questioned further. "At least they'd of made up something to replace my face" he murmured.
Placing the mask back over his face, Dar slipped the leather strap behind his hand and pulled his cloak up again. From his pocket, he pulled a flute which he had carved while hunting overnight. While not fancy, the flute did make a nice sound.
Bringing the instrument to his lips, Dar began to play a forest tune. It sang of birds and deer, frolicking among the gasses of the meadow. Rabbits were woven into his song, bouncing merrily through the flowers. But suddenly, a hungry wolf appeared, stalking an old doe who nibbled on the dew grass. He pounced, ending the doe's long lived life, apologizing to the prey for killing her.
The tune died away as Dar removed the flute from his lips, sitting and idly staring at a rather plain mushroom.

Diana walked slowly along the path way, she was of course alone and a bit scared from it. This was her first time being out here, she wasn't sure what she would see or what she would find. She heard a noise from behide her and started to walk faster. She hated being followed around, almost as much as seeing the death of her parents. She continued on walking trying to not think of her past. She couldn't help but give a small smile when the birds started to sing to something, she could hear something, it sounded a lot like music from a flute. She finally saw a man on a tree branch, she couldn't see him clearly enough to make out who he was and how he looked. She moved away when she saw a wolf come out and attack the doe's.
She made a small noise, before moving behide a bush. She could still hear him playing but soon she couldn't hear it anymore, and she was wondering why he had stopped playing. She moved out of her hiding spot to get a better look at the boy, he wasn't much older then her maybe by five or six years but not much older then that. She happened to see his face, but the mask was on at this time, she had never seen it before, this guy was new to her. She touched her face as if whipping sweat away over her left side of hr face, looking at him she gave a small smile but it faded away fast, she wasn't a person who talked to anyone, not her past.

Darius caught sight of someone, causing him to look down. It was a girl. She looked fairly young. Fourteen, maybe fifteen years of age. A small smile tugged at his face in return to hers. It was a silent greeting between two humans. Well... he thought she was human anyway.
Bringing the tune to his lips again, Darius played another forest tune. It was of two fairies dancing from mushroom top to mushroom top, giggling and spinning in colorful spirals. They fluttered around the girl in slow circles, small sparkles of light trailing after them.
Then a small unicorn joined them, prancing and playing with the fairies. When the music got higher, so did the threesome. When the music went lower, the creatures followed. Darius's eyes were now closed as he played, fingers moving gracefully over the holes.

Diana had seen his smile back, she wasn't sure what to do, she wasn't about to talk that was for sure, she listened to his music again and almost jumped to see figures around her, or they looked like figures anyway, she beat over and pressed her finger into the dirt, 'You play lovely.' She wrote three words on the ground before looking up at him again. She hadn't heard much music before coming here, and she wasn't ever this much happy. She watched his fingers move up and down as he played, she was still going to be mute, she wasn't sure what to say, her English wasn't all that great. She drew a smiley face on the ground and wrote, 'Happy.' She was starting to feel chilly it was so cool outside she wasn't even wearing a sweater.
She shivered in the cold, her arms folded and she was rubbed her upper arms trying to get warm. Her teeth were chattering, she looked down at the ground trying to smile again, but she just couldn't find herself to do it. She looked up at him and gave a friendly slow wave, she didn't want to leave but it was so cold. She manged to mumble small words, "S...so... so... c... co... cold..." She hated how she sounded when talking in English, she didn't know it all that well. She looked towards him again, still not realizing he had on a mask over his face, but then again she would only get scared for a minute, before being fine with staring at him, she could only see his hold showing, everything looked normal about him, she waited a few minutes more before she started to slowly walk off, she was cold and had no where else to go.

Darius stopped playing again, the figures disappearing. She was shivering. It wasn't that cold, was it? After all, it was spring. She must come from a hot place. He placed his flute back into his pocket, pushing it down as deep as it could go so that it wouldn't fall out.
He gripped onto the branch with his hands before gathering his legs beneath him. He slipped off of the banch backwards, his hands preventing him from dropping to the ground. Hanging for a moment, he looked down before letting go of the branch.
Landing with a thud, Darius stood up straight after a moment. Looking towards the girl, he said "Greetings." Hesitating for a minute, he then asked "Are you cold?" One could never be too sure unless one asked. A sudden bump to his lower back caused him to turn. It was his horse coming to see what was happening.

Diana heard the music stop playing, she felt bad now that he must of seen her trying to leave, must of seen her cold. She had been from a hot place, she wasn't used to it being this cold, not even in the spring time. She turned her head to see him getting down off of the branch, she stopped moving to look back at him, she wasn't sure what to say. She just stood there as he stopped to ask her if she was cold or not, she beat over carefully to write into the dirt, 'Yes, and English is hard to speak.' She stood back up looking at the ground for a long moment, she still wasn't about to answer the question, she wasn't good with English.
She blinked a few times, before finally talking slowly, "G.. gr... gree.. greeting..." She knew she forgot to say the 's' in the word, she just had a hard time talking, she wasn't from around here, they had another language they spoke, it was much easiler to talk and write it. She shut her eyes for a long momnet, the cold air was getting to her again, making her shiver. "Co...cold.." She mumbled it again, it would be very hard to understand. She finally looked at him again, she could see something on his face but wasn't sure what it was, "Wh.. what... is that?" She questioned not moving her hand towards him, but to her own left side, she wasn't sure what the thing was, but it didn't look like skin.

English? That must be the word she used to describe the language he spoke. He never really asked what it was called.
"This?" he asked, tapping on the metal mask. It made a ringing thud as his finger tapped it. "It's a metal mask" he said. He removed the hood of his cloak, revealing his face and mask to her. A slight blush came over his cheeks, but he kept eye contact.
It was then that it clicked. What a stupid idiot!, he scolded. Give her your cloak. She's cold. He undid the clasp that held his cloak around his shoulder, allowing the thing to fall into one of his arms. The initial coolness of the air krept up his back, but ti didn't bother him that much.
"Here" he said, handing it to her. "You need it more than I do" he said. Another nudge in his back told him his horse was becoming impatient. "Alright, Gospal, don't be so impatient" he said irritably.

Diana looked at him a bit confused, she knew what a metal mask was, she just didn't understand why he had one, "A metal.. mask..." She answered back to him, she didn't have much trouble to say the words, "A friend of my fathers had one, he was burned in his own house..." She was quiet finally, he couldn't of been burned, could he? She shivered again holding her arms tighter. She smiled when he took off his clock and gave it too her. "Thank you monsieur, you are so kind." It was a habit from her old home, she called people madam or monsieur.
She wasn't sure how to put it on, when ever cold her father helped her put it on, she knew how to do it herself. She tried putting it over herself but she just couldn't get it to stay on, she was holding it now, but didn't ask any questions on it. "You play beautifully." She smiled again, she was starting to talk more, or tried to talk more, but sometimes she still was hard to understand. If only I was better at this, or if he could just understand anyway.... She held the top of the clock in her right hand to hold it on, she didn't know there was more then just putting it on, no one showed her how to do it.

Darius grunted grimly. That would do it. It must have been tragic, being burnt in your own home. "I'm... weak on that side of my face. The mask protects it" he explained. It wasn't a lie as that was his weaker side, but it wasn't the whole truth either. A small smile came across his lips as she thanked him for the cloak. "You're welcome" he said.
He watched her try to get the cloak to stay on and raised an eyebrow. Didn't she know how to do up the clasp? "Thank you" he said, head bowing slightly at it. Stepping foward he said "Here, let me", gesturing to the clasp. It would be rude not to. He gently took hold of each end, sliding the clasp end through the loop. Darius then snapped it together so that the cloak stayed about the girl's shoulders. When he looked up at her face, it was only than that he realized just how close he was standing to her. [blech]

Diana smiled at his comment, "I don't mind those with a mask on, I've seen worse." She wasn't sure why he had the mask on, but she had a pretty good idea as to why, she just sighe before looking away again, she was still holding the clock in her hand. When he offered to help her with it, she let go as he took hold on it, "I never learned how to do it, so thanks for helping me." She had some secrets to share as well, she saw how close up he was to her and she only smiled bigger, "Can you keep a secet? Monsieur?" She didn't have a name to call him by, she was thinking of telling him her secret now. "Its about my father, he and my mother were killed not that long ago." She paused she wasn't sure if she was going to tell him, she was royal, not just yet.

"My name is Darius, but you can call me Dar" he said softly. Although he didn't know what Monsieur meant, he had a fairly good idea. His face softened at the news of her parents' death. Even though he didn't know her or her family, it was always sad when somebody died.
"But yes, I can keep a secret" he said. He was beginning to wonder why she was asking if he could keep a secret. Was she secretly an angel, sent from the gods? Or perhaps her parents had been assassins, plotting to kill the king. What if she was a lotukin, seeking new playing to play music, her parents the ones to banish her from their lands? It was the only things Darius could think about. He was beginning to regret saying that he could keep a secret.
The horse once again nudged Darius, this time pushing him closer to touch the girl with his chest. His eye went wide, his face set into shock.

Diana looked back at him, "I am Diana." She sighed before hearing his answer, he can keep a secret? I can trust him then. "I am born.. born in a royal family, when my parents were killed I went missing for... sometime.." She sighed again, before adding, "I just wanted to be normal, and not be searched for. Those men, they still search for me too, I saw them, murderer my parents and they made me follow after them, but after the cart stopped I refused to go with them. I fought but they over powered me, the three of them. I finally manged to free myself and get away." She was doing her best to speak the best English as she could. "I can't remember the last time I saw someone I knew, must be ages now. I was young when they hurt me, and it pains me to beg you to keep these secret. Don't let anyone know you have found the princess Diana, else my prince will well I don't know what he'll do, the wedding must of been canceled after I went missing."
She felt like crying now, but held it all in, "I owe you that much information about myself, kind stranger, or Darius." She had almost forgotten he had given his name to her, "I'd gladly call you Dar, unless you rather I call you sir Darius or sir Dar, my family uses those words all the time and I have done it so much that isn't any problem for you to be called it either, unless you rather I call you just Dar." She wasn't sure what to say, this men was so kind, and she saw him moving closer to her, no she saw the horse push him closer to her. She smiled again at him, "So what is your horse's name?" She liked animals but horses was her favorite kind.
