Footsteps fell upon the ground almost silently, two pairs in pursuit, and at least forty on the run, though the latter were not so silent. "Kiora! This way!" The first of the former called, his voice ringing pure in the surrounding forest. Garrett and his companion Kiora were in pursuit of a herd of elk, their goal was to bring down at least two, just as the other hunting parties were doing. Garrett's plan was to chase them deeper into the trees, for there was a place in particular where he knew he could catch the entire herd. It was a clearing where the trees grew so close together, it would be impossible for the largest herd members to get through.
Modifying his path so that he could run right beside Kiora, he spoke. "We're almost there. Trust me, it's worked a thousand times. There's no reason it shouldn't work again." This was their first time hunting as a team, and though they were friends, Garrett doubted that Kiora believed his technique's liability.

Something different. Totally different. Hunting with someone else. Miss-matched eyes unblinkingly scanned the quickly moving terain as the two of them rushed through the forest, obviously herding the Herd of Elk somewhere. At first she had been uncertain about Garret's thought process, but Kiora was willing to try out something new. She grinned slightly as he was soon running beside her shouting as if they were at a party.
"Had you been anyone else Garrett, I would have called you insane and left you to hunt on your own." Kiora laughed as her eyes glinted in humor. And indeed that was a fact. She really didn't like hunting with others, but Garrette had a curious way of hunting and she wanted to know what his plan was.

Garrett couldn't help but to laugh at his friend's 'comment' as he slowed his pace; They were close now and he didn't want to risk scaring the animals out of the clearing before the two of them got there. He touched Kiora's arm to alert her to the change of pace, then nudged her slightly. "Wouldn't you call me insane anyway, in any case?" He asked in a whisper, grinning slightly. He didn't expect an answer, especially now that they had reached the clearing.
"Here it is. See, three of them can't get through. The span of their antlers is too wide." He said, as he came to a stop and crouched low so they could not see him. And just as he had said, three of the largest stags were pacing back and forth before the wall of trees, trying to follow the rest of the herd through.

Kiora gave a humored chuckle as he responded. "I'm afraid I would," She grinned at him as they began to slow down. She watched in interest as three large buck tried to make their way through the small pathways through the trees. "Aah, now that's a neat trick you have there Garr," She whispered as she drew her bow from her back and silently knocked an arrow. She stood absolutely still, hidden by the large bushes that would obscure the stag's gaze. "I'll get the right one and middle...- Though unless you can draw an arrow faster than me have at it..." She gave a taunting smirk, but didn't take her gaze off the stags. It wasn't that she was bragging she drew quickly, though she was known for her rapid use of arrows. She would much prefer use a sword if she was in battle.
She waited a moment, to let Garrett prepare himself to strike his own stag. Wind rustled the leaves and grass, managing to throw her hair, that was up in a high ponytail, into her face. It didn't bother her, for she still had a single eye on the buck she would be aiming at first. She tightened her fingers on the string of her bow hearing it smoothly bend and tighten ready to be released with a sharp twang, but she didn't let go yet.

Garrett grinned at his friend as he too knocked an arrow and took aim. "Take as many as you want. Either way, all three are ours." He whispered. He knew she was a great archer. He wouldn't deny it. However, he was fairly well matched with Kiora, and it was quite possible that there would be two arrows in that center stag once it was all done with. "Just so you know, I would go for the right first, the center second. I'm not trying to question your hunting abilities, but that right one will run once it sees an arrow in the center one. Trust me, I know from experience."
With that, Garrett turned his attention to his stag and took careful aim, waited until just the right moment, and sent his arrow flying, straight into the side of the stag. Unfortunately, he hit just to the side of the heart, and had to shoot again. This time he hit his target, and quickly took aim at the central stag.

At the sound of Garrett's bow being released Kiora's fingers slipped from the fingers and the bow gave a sharp twang and sent the arrow racing and whistling through the air and embeded into the neck of the first buck and lodging into the bark of a tree managing to get the stag stuck. With out another thought she quickly reached back and as quick as the last arrow was released her next arrow was flying toward the next buck and hit him in the side as it tried to escape. She stuck her tongue out as the buck continued to try and escape. "Damn..." She mused watching as it stumbled to the ground huffing and puffing for air. "Got his lung instead..." She frowned. The first one with the arrow in it's neck was on purpose for there was no clear shot of it's heart, but she should have hit the second perfectly. "I think I'm getting rusty..." She said as she slung the bow over her shoulder and looked at Garett before grinning, "Haha, lets see what the others have to say to us getting the biggest stags in the herd!" She mused giddily. There was no harm in that, flaunting around their kill, right? Oh well she shrugged it off before she walked over to the deer that was having trouble breathing.
Crouching down she slid her hand over the things neck, careful of it's bucking legs and pulled a dagger from her belt. With a light nod toward the stag she quickly dug the dagger into it's neck taking his life completely. Even if some Kizok's didn't care that their kills were suffering, Kiora didn't like it. She hated when she missed and the beast was wallering around in pain. Standing up she looked at the stag who now hung limply from her arrow. She walked over and braced the stag against the tree before pulling out her arrow and letting the stag slowly slide back to the ground. "Alright, now to get them back..." She looked at Garrett crossing her arms over her chest.

Garrett's third shot, aimed for the center buck wasn't much better than Kiora's, so he didn't judge. He had only managed to get it through the poor creature's thigh. Shrugging off this poor shot, he shouldered his bow and headed toward the stags with Kiora. "They'll be jealous, I know it." He said with a grin as he kneeled beside his kill and extracted the arrows. It was hard enough to take the kills back without dealing with the arrows. "They're awful nice, aren't they?" He asked, licking the blood from the two arrows.
Not expecting an answer, he dragged his stag a short distance, putting it close to the others. He then stood up straight and looked around, thinking of ways to bring them back to the clan. "I know I could pull one all the way back... I don't know if you can... Either way, I don't want to leave one here."

Kiora chuckled with amusement just thinking that the other hunters would be jealous at ther excellent success in their hunt. It wasn't everday that hunters as young as them brought back such large bucks; three at that. Though Garrett's last comment about her not being able to drag a deer by herself all the way back to the village made her send the boy such a dark look as she stood up and rolled her shoulder. She puffed indignantly and stuffed her arrows into her leather bound container. "Just for that you get to drag the second one." She stated calmly as she roughly gripped the horns of her stag and tugged it closer to her.
Digging in her back pocket Kiora fished out a pair of obsidian fingerless gloves. Pulling them over her hands so they didn't get hurt by the rough texture of the stag's horns she waited for Garrett. Of course she really wasn't going to let him drag the second stag all the way back by himself. when they got half way there she would take up dragging the second deer the rest of the way home. Although that didn't mean she couldn't be irritated that Garrett thought she wouldn't be able to carry her own stag just because she was a girl, if that was even his train of thought on the subject.

"Wow... Chivalry really is dead. No one even recognizes it any more. I was just making sure Kiora." He said with an almost hurt expression. Shrugging it off, Garrett grabbed an antler from each stag and began to pull. He had planned on pulling both anyway, and he wasn't entirely sure why she had taken offense. While he thought to himself on this, he suddenly began to think about the other hunting parties. Oh, how jealous they would be! A slight smirk crossed his features as he imagined the look on his peers' faces.
((Sorry, lacking muse))
